How many root canals can be done in one sitting under sedation dentistry?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

It is generally not advisable 2-3 root canals, with or without sedation. Not all are strong enough to withstand pain, if at all, after the effect of sedation wears off. It is good to give at least a gap of 2 days to put next ones in line under the drill.

what is the pill given for sedation dentistry?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

what is it called? and how does it compare to "Laughing Gas"?

There are several, but when you use the term "sedation dentistry," it makes me think Halcion (Triazolam), which is popular with a particular group that is promoting its use.

When you are done with the gas, you turn it off and you are done. When you are done with the pill, you have to wait for your body to metabolize it.

The pill will probably knock you more for a loop than the gas. (Get you "out of it" more)

I need to undergo sedation dentistry. I take several psychotropic drugs, and the dentist is concerned.?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

He is worried about how the drugs I take (Sinemet, lithium, and Seroquel) will interact with the anesthetics and tranquilizers he will use. What could happen? I am willing to lay off the meds to have this work done.

Your dentist needs to consult with the physician who prescribed your other meds – or with a pharmacist. Interactions may be possible, and it’s never a bad idea to double-check. Some oral surgeons will ask a person to forgo the regular meds for a day or two prior to the dental procedure. It can be a bit confusing, but usually, the meds you mention won’t interact with common dental anesthetics. The tranquilizer may be another story – that’s why it’s a good idea to get a professional consultation before administering them.
